It’s all about fun in the sun for this Jackson watercraft rental business

MICHIGAN CENTER, MI – Jontaj and LaRonda Wallace’s new business is a way they can share their love of the water with the community.

The Wallaces are frequent visitors to Cedar Point and said they live for thrill and excitement. While visiting one time, they spotted a business that rents out personal watercraft to people for hours at a time. They thought, why not try that in Jackson County.

“It was a couple years ago right before the (COVID-19) pandemic and we just said, ‘We’ve got a lot of nice lakes around Jackson, we should look into doing this,’” Jontaj said. “Get some fun, family activity for the summer that no one has around here.”

“We just want everybody to experience the fun and excitement we experienced,” LaRonda added.

So, JT’s Jet Ski Rental was born and officially launched Memorial Day weekend. So far, business has been great, and the Wallaces say they have received nothing but positive feedback.

“We always get, ‘What made you think of this?’ and ‘We’ll be back,’” LaRonda said.

Currently, the business has two personal watercraft that can be rented out, and a third is on the way, Jontaj said.

Weekday prices for rentals are $200 for two hours, $300 for a half day or $500 for a full day. Weekend rates Friday through Sunday are $350 for two hours, $475 for a half day and $600 for a full day. Life jackets and tubes to pull people on are included.

The Michigan Center business will deliver and pick up the personal watercraft within a 25-mile radius of Jackson for free. Anything beyond that is a $5 fee, LaRonda said.

The personal watercraft are great for family time at the lake, for friends gathering or for any other activity, Jontaj said.

“We thought we could give families something to do when they go to the lake on the weekend,” Jontaj said.

While the family emphasizes having fun, safety is the No. 1 concern, the Wallaces said. They ask those renting the jet skis to follow the safety rules the business provides, such as following the speed limit and keeping life jackets on, Jontaj said, adding that following basic lake etiquette is also important.

“We’re big on safety,” Jontaj said. “We realize there are other children out there and families. We don’t want to impede on their fun either.”
