Chennai: DMK’s mouthpiece attacks Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Days after Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman singled out the DMK during the price rise debate in Lok Sabha, DMK mouthpiece Murasoli on Saturday took a dig at the minister by stating that she had to maintain composure to know the financial status of the Union government.
The Union minister would not be able to understand the gravity of the situation if she lacked composure and remained angry, the party said in a hard-hitting editorial. The ruling party slammed Nirmala for stating that the Indian economy and the GST collection was robust. “If people are paying taxes properly, it means the people tolerate you and not that the Indian economy is stable. If many aspirants write NEET, does it mean that everyone likes the examination? Seems they collected huge GST from Tamil Nadu. What are they trying to say? That the industrialists of Tamil Nadu accepted the GST?” the DMK said. Stating that the Indian economy and tax remittance were entirely different, the party hit out at the minister for levying 5% GST on pre-packaged food items. The ruling party said the cost of rice and wheat increased by 30% in the rest of the country during June and July, but not in Tamil Nadu, since the production was high due to extensive coverage and maintenance of uniformed supply of free rice under the public distribution system. “If we question it, the minister talks about exemption of GST on crematorium, burial, mortuary and funeral services. It shows why she was appointed finance minister. She has to shamelessly do what has been said,” the DMK said.
