Jason Williams not allowed to bring up race, politics in trial
New information has come to light ahead of Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams’ federal tax case set to go to trial next month. The judge in Williams’ case ruled this week that his defense team cannot claim he was indicted for racial or political reasons in his upcoming trial. Months ago, Williams’ team was seeking to have the charges against him dismissed by claiming prosecutors charged him because he was running for Orleans Parish District Attorney and because he is black. Those allegations were dismissed by the court and now Judge Lance Africk said they cannot be brought up again. Williams and his codefendant Nicole Burdette are scheduled to go on trial on July 18.
