Rep. Vruwink: Named property taxpayer champion for the 2nd time

State Rep. Don Vruwink received the 2021 Property Taxpayer Champion award from the Wisconsin Property Taxpayers Inc., today. Presentation of the award was delayed due to the covid pandemic.

In announcing the honor, the organization cited Rep. Vruwink’s vote in favor of legislation to repeal a tax imposed on small business for the fixtures and equipment they use in daily operations, as well as his vote in favor of the 2021-2023 state budget bill.

“While the property tax repeal was not enacted into law this legislative session, I intend to work with my colleagues in the majority party to advance this bill in the next session,” Vruwink said. “When I talk to business owners and families in the communities I represent, financial issues are one of the top concerns, including property taxes.”

“Our organization is comprised of 18,000 small businesses, farms, and property owners across the state,” said John Jacobson of the Wisconsin Property Taxpayers Association. “Each year, those members nominate lawmakers who they believe have worked on their behalf, advocated for lower taxes, and stood up for Main Street, Wisconsin. Rep. Vruwink was nominated several times. Specifically, members cited his bipartisan votes on the repeal of the personal property tax and the 2021-2023 state budget, which provided billions in tax relief to the state’s property taxpayers and families.”

In addition to doing research and policy analysis, the organization assists members in dealing with local property tax issues and questions related to assessments, property tax exemptions, and state laws.
